Clark State’s College for Kids Now Available to Teens, Expands to Greene County

The Clark State Community College youth program College for Kids is now College for Kids and Teens. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 have the opportunity to attend week-long summer classes that meet two to three hours each day, or week-long day camps that last six hours each day. The College for Kids and Teens program has also expanded to Greene County this year.

Clark State Welcomes New Volleyball Coach

Steve McInturff has joined Clark State Community College as the new head coach of the women’s volleyball team. McInturff grew up in Champaign County, Ohio, graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design and has coached at several local high schools including Urbana, Kenton Ridge and the former Springfield North.

Clark State to Host Diversity Conference for Local Colleges, Community

Clark State Community College will host “Diversity Uncovered on Two-Year Campuses” on March 30 and 31 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. Faculty, staff, students, administrators and community members are invited to attend the first-of-its-kind diversity conference at Clark State. Guest speaker Eric Ellis will present on both days.

Jim Witter to Take Stage at Clark State Performing Arts Center with Songs of Taylor, King

Clark State Community College will present the Richard and Barbara Kuss Memorial Concert featuring Jim Witter at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 15 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center in downtown Springfield. The Jim Witter concert is part of the annual Clark State Circle of Friends Gala in support of events at the Performing Arts Center. Witter, along with special guest Tiffany Desrosiers, will present “Fire and Rain: The Songs of James Taylor and Carole King.”

Community Mercy Health Partners Will Bring the Real World of Healthcare into the Classroom at Clark State

President and CEO of Community Mercy Health Partners (CMHP) and Vice President of Mercy Health Matthew Caldwell will bring the real world of healthcare into the classroom at Clark State Community College on Thursday, March 16. Caldwell will present “Nursing: Caring for Our Community” to nursing students at Clark State. He will also discuss opportunities with CMHP, including the Student Nurse Apprenticeship Program (SNAP) and Accelerated Clinical Education (ACE).

Clark State Named as Finalist for AACC Award of Excellence in Safety, Planning and Leadership

Clark State Community College has been named as one of three finalists for the 2017 American Association of Community College (AACC) Safety, Planning and Leadership Award of Excellence. The College is constantly working to improve safety and security on its campuses. Clark State had no crimes in 2015, as reported for the 2015 Jeanne Clery Annual Campus Security Report. The College strives to continue to keep crime low while training its faculty and staff to react to potential emergency situations.

New Clark State Event Highlights Year-Round Scheduling for Students

Clark State Community College will hold a first-of-its-kind registration event for current students in March and April. RegFest will showcase how students can register for summer 2017, fall 2017 and spring 2018 classes all at one time. Students are able to learn to navigate Financial Aid Self-Service (FASS), an online interactive resource that gives students a dashboard view of their financial aid status and provides a check list and information about satisfactory academic progress.

New Banking Option for Management Degree Announced for Fall Semester 2017

Clark State Community College will introduce a Banking program option with the start of the fall semester this year. The new program falls under the management umbrella and focuses on preparing students for a career in the banking industry. Students will have the option of an associate degree and/or two certificates. The creation of the program was community driven and is designed to prepare students to meet the demands of banking in local branches.

Clark State, Local Philanthropist Bring Magical Math to Community

Clark State Community College will welcome Mathemagician Dr. Arthur Benjamin to the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center for two complimentary performances on Thursday, March 23. Benjamin is the Smallwood Family Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College, and a professional magician who entertains with faster-than-a-calculator mental addition, multiplication and other amazing feats of the mind.

Clark State to Implement More Student Saving with Virtual Bookstore

In a continuing effort to make college more affordable for students, the Clark State Community College bookstore will convert to online format and offer textbooks via eCampus beginning with 2017 summer semester classes. The Clark State administration was looking for a way to reduce the student cost and provide enhanced service. Clark State students will be able to ship books to their home or to the Clark State Greene Center, Leffel Lane or Ohio Hi-Point (Bellefontaine) locations.

Clark State Enrollment Increase Expected to Continue

Clark State Community College has seen a three percent increase in enrollment over this same time last year. The College expects enrollment to continue to increase with the start of Spring B term on March 13. The Spring Semester 2017 headcount is currently 6,394. Enrollment for Spring B term will continue through next week.

Clark State President a Featured Author in Book on Gen X Presidents

Clark State Community College President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin will be a featured author in a book being released this spring. Blondin penned a chapter for “Generation X Presidents Leading Community Colleges” at the request of editor Martha Ellis. Blondin was tapped by Ellis to contribute to the book because of her successful role as a Generation X president.

Clark State Community College will welcome the Dayton Region Manufacturers Association (DRMA) to the newly renovated Advanced Manufacturing Lab on Thursday, March 9 for the MFG Mix. DRMA is a catalyst of innovation, a builder of partnerships and a champion for education to keep manufacturing in the Dayton region moving forward.

Ronald Gordon Named Dean of Student Support Services for Clark State

Clark County’s own Ron Gordon, officially took the helm at Clark State Community College as dean of student support services in January. Gordon began his career at Clark State in March of 2007 as a recruiter for truck driver training. He has also served as director of athletics, and director of student services at the Clark State Greene Center campus in Beavercreek.
