Clark State Celebrates Black History Month with February Events

Clark State Community College will celebrate Black History Month with a February calendar full of events and opportunities for students and the community. The Central State Chorus will kick-off the month-long celebration with a performance on February 2 at 8 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

Central State Chorus Bringing Celebration of American Music to the Clark State Performing Arts Center

Clark State Community College will welcome the Central State University Chorus to the Performing Arts Center on February 2 for their fifth consecutive concert in celebration of Black History Month. The Central State Chorus ensemble is comprised of 50 singers. This year’s theme is the celebration of American music. The highly acclaimed Central State University Chorus has a repertoire encompassing all periods and styles, including spirituals of African Americans, gospel and jazz.

Cristina Pato Quartet Will Bring Unique Sound to the Clark State Performing Arts Center

Clark State Community College will welcome Cristina Pato to the Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 27 as part of the Club Kuss Series presented by Mary Alice and Steve Neely. Pato daringly skirts the boundaries of jazz, classical and world music, and in her recent album LATINA, she and her band The Cristina Pato Quartet delve into the musical genre of Latin music.

Clark State to Host New Literacy Conference in State of Ohio

Clark State Community College has partnered with Graham Local Schools; the United Way of Clark, Champaign and Madison Counties; and Battelle for Kids to present the 2018 Literacy Summit on January 23. Kirk Koennecke, superintendent of Graham Local Schools said the Literacy Summit is the first regional literacy event in the state of Ohio. The Literacy Summit will also feature a panel of students from Clark State.

Clark State, City of Springfield Will Host 28th Annual MLK Luncheon

Clark State Community College and the City of Springfield will host the 28th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon on Friday, January 12 at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Hall of the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. A student from each high school in Clark County has been nominated to be recognized as a Peacemaker for exemplifying a zeal for social justice and service to others. The keynote speaker for this year's Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon will be Reverend Darryl Simmons.

David Sedaris to Bring Talents to Performing Arts Center this Spring

Clark State Community College will welcome humor-writer David Sedaris to the Performing Arts Center on April 16. With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s preeminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. Clark State Welcomes Tony Award-Winning Cabaret to the Performing Arts Center

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center will welcome the National Broadway Tour of Cabaret on Wednesday, January 10. As part of their 50th Anniversary Season, the critically acclaimed and award-winning Roundabout Theatre Company is proud to present Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall’s Tony Award-winning production of Cabaret. Tickets for Cabaret are available at ticketmaster.com and range from $53 to $63. Cabaret begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue in downtown Springfield.

Nancy Blondin Scholar Returning to Clark State as Adjunct Professor

Clark State Community College alumnus Jenna Schmid will return to Clark State later this January, not as a student, but as an adjunct professor of Convergence and Security. Schmid is from Fairborn, Ohio, and graduated from Clark State in May of 2016 with a dual degree in Computer Networking and CyberSecurity. She was awarded the first Nancy Blondin Scholarship.

Clark State Associate Professor Honored for Poetry

Clark State Community College Associate Professor Chris Bays has been honored for his poem “Despite Rising Seas” which took 1st place in a national poetry contest. Haiku Society of America sponsored the contest for Best Unpublished Haibun of 2017. The haibun, a hybrid form, combines prose poetry with haiku. It has a tradition spanning from the 17th century to modern times.

Clark State to Offer Weekend Courses for CDL Training Beginning in January

The Clark State Commercial Transportation Training Center will begin offering a weekend course option to obtain a CDL Class A license in January of 2018. This ten-week semi-truck driving training program is tailored for working adults who want to train for a new career as a commercial driver, without leaving their existing job. Program fees includes all books, materials, testing and fees. Financial assistance may be available to individuals who qualify.

Clark State Police Academy Holds Graduation Ceremony in January

Clark State Community College will hold a graduation ceremony for cadets of the Peace Officer Training Academy at 6 p.m. on January 4, 2018, in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 South Limestone Street. Clark State will offer an evening Peace Officer Training Academy beginning January 8 from 5:30 - 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A daytime Peace Officer Training Academy will begin March 5 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and includes several weekends for on-and-off-site training.

Johns Hopkins Programs Return to Clark State for Fourth Year, Applications Open December 15

Clark State Community College is recruiting middle school and high school students for the fourth consecutive year of the elite Phone & Games and Engineering Innovation programs in partnership with Johns Hopkins University. Eligible students from Madison, Clark, Champaign, Logan, Miami, Montgomery and Greene counties will be able to participate in the programs during the summer of 2018. Applications for Engineering Innovation and the Phone & Games programs are online and will open on December 15, 2017.

Clark State Drives Success with College Credit Plus, Will Host Info Session Today

Clark State Community College continues to successfully increase the number of students enrolled in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. In 2017, College Credit Plus, formerly known as the Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program, increased enrollment by more than 11 percent over 2016. In the 2016-17 academic year, College Credit Plus students earned a total of 18,695 credit hours; a savings of more than $2.6 million in tuition costs. Since the inception of College Credit Plus in 2013, Clark State has saved students and families more than $10 million.

Clark State Seeking Proposals for New Health Care Facility

Clark State Community College is now accepting bid proposals from companies interested in establishing a health care facility on the Leffel Lane campus in Springfield. Clark State is seeking a partner with the shared vision of better healthcare for students, faculty, employees and the community at large. The proposed location for the health care facility is the first floor of the Applied Science Center, one of Clark State’s busiest classroom buildings and the location of most nursing and allied science classes.

Clark State Advances in Pursuit to Offer Applied Baccalaureate Degree

Clark State Community College is one step closer in its quest to offer students the option of an applied baccalaureate degree in Manufacturing Technology Management. Clark State's application for the applied baccalaureate degree in Manufacturing Technology Management has been posted to the Ohio Department of Higher Education website, which is the second step in the approval process; the first was the application. An applied bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Technology Management from Clark State will prepare incumbent workers in the manufacturing industry or those interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing to acquire both technical and supervisory skills that will result in a well-paying job in the region.

Study Shows Clark State’s Local Economic Impact More than $160 Million in 2016

An economic impact study by the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) shows Clark State Community College nearly doubled its local impact in fiscal year 2016. SOCHE completed the last economic impact study in 2011. The total economic impact of Clark State on Champaign, Clark, Greene and Logan Counties reached approximately $161 million last year. This includes the impact of operations, student spending and capital investment. The college directly supported 1,482 jobs and indirectly supported another 425 full- and part-time jobs in the four-county region.

Clark State to Hold Pinning Ceremonies for Nursing Graduates

The Clark State Community College – Springfield Regional School of Nursing will hold pinning ceremonies for more than 80 graduating nurses who have completed their programs of study. The pinning ceremony for registered nursing students will be held Monday, December 11, 2017, at 6 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center; 56 registered nursing students will be honored at this event. The pinning ceremony for the practical nursing students will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the Clark State Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center; 24 practical nursing students will be honored during this ceremony.

Project Jericho Unveils New Art Exhibit at Clark State

Clark State Community College invites the community to attend the unveiling of Project Jericho’s exhibit entitled, Afternoon in the Park, on Thursday, December 14 from 5-6 p.m. in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center Rotunda at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. Project Jericho youth created 12 acrylic paintings of landscapes that captured the changing seasons of Clark County. Youth worked with lead artist Kristen Eisentrager to explore landscape painting through original photographs and by exploring the grounds at George Rogers Clark Park.
