Clark State Board Member Andy Bell Reappointed to National Committee

Clark State Community College Board of Trustees member Andy Bell has been reappointed to the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Finance and Audit Committee for 2019. Bell has also served as chairperson of the Finance Committee for Clark State, Wittenberg University and the Global Impact STEM Academy. Bell’s involvement with Clark State began with the Foundation Board in 2000. He served for the maximum nine years, including two terms as chairperson. Because of his extraordinary service on the Foundation Board, he was appointed by the Governor to the Clark State Board of Trustees in 2006.

Governor Reappoints Three to Clark State Board of Trustees

Ohio Governor John R. Kasich reappointed three members of the Clark State Community College Board of Trustees on Tuesday, November 27. Mike McDorman and Peggy Noonan of Springfield and Kyle Hall of Urbana will continue their dedicated service to Clark State through November 30, 2024. Clark State’s Board of Trustees oversees the operations of the College. Trustees are appointed by the Governor of Ohio for six-year terms. Board work sessions and regular meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of each month.

Clark State to Hold Pinning Ceremonies for Fall 2018 Nursing Graduates

The Clark State Community College – Springfield Regional School of Nursing will hold pinning ceremonies for 99 graduating nurses who have completed their programs of study. The pinning ceremony for the Practical Nursing students will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, December 6; 36 Practical Nursing students will be conferred at this ceremony. The pinning ceremony for Registered Nursing students will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, December 7; 63 Registered Nursing students will be conferred at this ceremony. Both ceremonies will be held at the Clark State Performing Arts Center in downtown Springfield.

Clark State Professor Presents to State Legislature on Technology in Agriculture

Dr. Larry Everett, Clark State Community College director of Precision Agriculture and the Ohio Center for Precision Agriculture, delivered a presentation on “The Role of Technology in Agriculture and Food Systems” at the State of Ohio Legislative Services Commission (LSC) training for newly elected members of the State legislature. Everett discussed agricultural innovations in farm technology and bringing agricultural products to market.

Clark State to Hold Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony for More Than 70 Students

Alpha Nu Lambda, Clark State Community College’s chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), will hold a fall induction ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 28 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. Phi Theta Kappa highlights the academic excellence of our students and provides opportunities for scholarship, fellowship and service. Alpha Nu Lambda was named a Five Star chapter in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Clark State Students Take on Challenge, Save More Than $265,000 in Tuition

In addition to the many cost saving opportunities offered by Clark State Community College, the Tuition Challenge Program continues to successfully save students on tuition costs. Since 2015 Clark State students have saved more than $265,000 with the program that encourages positive classroom performance. The Tuition Challenge Program waives standard tuition rates for students who complete 12 or more credit hours in a semester, achieve a grade of C or better in each course and enroll in the successive semester for 12 or more credit hours.

Clark State and Clark County Department of Job and Family Services Partner to Bring Services Directly to Students

Clark State Community College and the Clark County Department of Job and Family Services/OhioMeansJobs have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) which will allow CCDJFS to provide services to students on campus. The MOU between Clark State and CCDJFS will provide case management services to address the personal barriers students may encounter while they try to stay in school, juggle work schedules and take care of family. The CCDJFS resource navigator will be located in the newly established Office of Student Support Services in Rhodes Hall on Clark State’s Springfield campus on Leffel Lane.

Clark State Will Continue Serving Student Needs Through New Office of Student Support

Clark State Community College will continue to provide a variety of support services and health and wellness options for students who may have concerns outside of the classroom; however, the services will now be available in the new Office of Student Support services located in Rhodes Hall on Clark State’s Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. The on-campus food pantry, school supply donations, clothes/coat closet will also be housed in the Office of Student Support. Faculty, staff and other students can help by referring students to the Office of Student Support Services.

Clark State Criminal Justice Club Teams Up with Springfield Police to Deliver Thanksgiving Meals

The Clark State Community College Criminal Justice Club has partnered with the Springfield Police Division to help deliver Thanksgiving meals to 11 families in Clark County on Wednesday, November 21. The newly established Criminal Justice Club of 30 members has been collecting non-perishable food items to accompany the meals for the last month. Meijer will be preparing the meals for Operation Thanksgiving, and they will be delivered by members of the Clark State Criminal Justice Club, the Citizens Academy of Springfield and the Springfield Police Division. Operation Thanksgiving has been serving families in the community for 27 years. This is the first year Clark State has participated.

Lady Eagles Launch Basketball Season with New Coach, Team Goals

The Clark State Community College women’s basketball team got the 2018-19 season underway with new head coach Jay Etter. Etter has been coaching basketball for more than 27 years in the tri-state area. He has coached AAU teams to seven Ohio State championships and hosted numerous basketball camps and clinics. Etter is recognized as one of the top basketball trainers in the Dayton area. Etter said the starters this season will be Liz Weaver, Dee Barnes, Brooke Starrett, Anarra Williams and Hayley Melton with Ariyah Lewis and McKayla Lee coming off of the bench. Clementine Mesa and Courtney Ross round out the team roster.

Clark State Announces New Manufacturing Scholarship and Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center

The Clark State Foundation will begin offering a new scholarship opportunity to students majoring in manufacturing technologies thanks to Greg and Alicia Hupp of Springfield. The Greg and Alicia Sweet Hupp Scholarship will benefit two Clark State students annually. The scholarships will cover tuition, fees, books and other course-related materials. With the scholarship comes a possible internship opportunity with Sweet Manufacturing. In honor of this family and their longstanding commitment to the community, Clark State will recognize the advanced manufacturing laboratory as the Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center.

Thompson Square Will Bring Country Flare to Clark State Performing Arts Center

The Clark State Performing Arts Center will welcome the husband-and-wife country duo, Thompson Square, to the stage on Saturday, November 17. Keifer and Shawna Thompson make up the internationally known duo with two No. 1 hits “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You.” Thompson Square has recently released their third studio album: Masterpiece. Tickets for Thompson Square are available at ticketmaster.com. The show begins at 8 p.m.

Clark State Approved for Second Bachelor’s Degree

Clark State Community College has received official approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) for a second applied baccalaureate degree. The four-year degree in Web Design and Development is anticipated to be available to students beginning in 2020 pending final approval by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The proposed Web Design and Development program will prepare students for employment as web developers, web designers, front end developers, software developers and full stack web developers.

Clark State Welcomes New Vice President of Academic Affairs

Clark State Community College has named Dr. Tiffany Hunter as the new vice president of academic affairs. Hunter has served as dean of education and human services at Florida State College at Jacksonville for the past seven years. She has worked in higher education for 20 years and in administrative roles, in both two- and four-year institutions for ten years. Hunter will begin her new role at Clark State as vice president of academic affairs on January 14, 2019.

Clark State to Honor Military Veterans with Activities

Clark State Community College will commemorate Veterans Day with various campus activities including the display of 2,000 United States flags at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane, the Greene Center in Beavercreek and at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine. The POW/MIA flag will be raised at the Springfield Leffel Lane campus. We are proud to honor the veterans and military in our Clark State community of students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Clark State Receives RAPIDS Funding from Ohio Department of Higher Education

Clark State Community College has been selected to receive $93,131 as part of the RAPIDS—Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills program—from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). The focus of the Western RAPIDS consortium, virtual reality in the classroom, is becoming a great tool for giving students hands-on experiences right in the classroom. Clark State will be using this technology to strengthen Clark State’s Cybersecurity/Information Assurance, Manufacturing and Physical Therapist Assistant programs. With technical programs like those offered by Clark State, hands-on experiences both in the field and in the classroom are essential, and virtual reality expands students’ opportunities like never before.

Clark State Names Lesli Beavers as Director of Workforce and Business Solutions

Former Clark State Community College program manager for Workforce and Business Solutions – Lesli Beavers – has accepted the role of director of Workforce and Business Solutions. Beavers replaces Toni Overholser, who now serves as director of the Clark State Foundation. Beavers is responsible for maintaining the College’s strong community outreach and liaison relationships with area chambers of commerce, related civic and government organizations and individuals to help ensure community leaders and the community at-large are aware of Clark State’s presence and value to the community.

Clark State Hosts 11th Volley for the Cure

Clark State Community College continues its health and wellness initiatives in October – breast cancer awareness month – by hosting the 11th annual Volley for the Cure. Volley for the Cure will be held on Wednesday, October 24 in the gymnasium of the Clark State Leffel Lane campus in Springfield. One hundred percent of the funds raised will be used to provide financial assistance to women of Clark and Champaign counties who do not have the resources necessary to ensure breast health or cope with breast cancer.

Clark State Receives Grant from the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Collaborative

Clark State Community College has been awarded $5,000 from the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Collaborative Grant. The grant will benefit Clark State and community partner The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for Clark, Greene and Madison Counties. The funds from the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Collaborative will be used for educational and promotional materials, and special events on campus.
