Clark State Now Offers Scholarships for CyberSecurity Degree

Clark State Community College is offering scholarships to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces or anyone with any bachelor’s degree with a strong interest in CyberSecurity. Qualified students who complete Clark State’s two-year CyberSecurity/Information Assurance program receive a paid scholarship (tuition, fees and books), a stipend of $25,000 per year, cybersecurity internships and assistance with full-time employment. Applications are due April 12 and are available at: http://bit.ly/2J6QTxq. Scholarships will be available beginning in the fall semester of 2019.

Clark State to Host Health Fair for College and Community

Clark State Community College will host a spring health fair as part of its continued health and wellness initiative. The annual Health Fair will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, April 3 in the LRC Building, Room 207/209 at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. The event is free and open to the public. Students, faculty, staff and the public will have the opportunity to connect with over 45 health and social service agencies from Springfield, Cincinnati and Dayton providing valuable information and screenings.

Clark State Now Accepting Applications for Third Class of Nationally Recognized SOAR Program

The third class of Clark State Community College SOAR participants will begin their mentorship under the guidance of Clark State President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin this fall. The goal of the SOAR program is to develop and create leaders who are committed to serving Clark State as partners in student success. SOAR is a comprehensive professional development experience for full-time faculty and staff that provides self-assessment, leadership strengths building, mentoring and career development planning, thereby leading to stronger, more prepared leaders who will enhance Clark State’s focus on student success. Applications for the 2019-20 class of SOAR participants are now being accepted until 5 p.m. on April 1. Those selected for the SOAR program will be mentored for one year. Mentoring will officially begin in August of this year.

Clark State to Host First Authors’ Corner Featuring Literary Works by Faculty, Staff

Clark State Community College will host its first Authors’ Corner featuring literary works and readings by Clark State faculty and staff on Tuesday, April 2. Authors’ Corner is a family event that is open to Clark State faculty, staff, students and the community-at-large. The event will be held 1 - 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 in the Clark State Library in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. The event is free and open to the public.

Clark State Theatre Arts Program to Present “The Lion in Winter”

Winter may be over, but the lion still prowls at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. The Clark State Community College Theatre Arts program will present “The Lion in Winter” beginning April 5 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. “The Lion in Winter” is a family drama set in 1183 at the court of Henry II and was written by James Goldman. “The Lion in Winter” is slated for performance at 8 p.m. April 5, 6, 12 and 13; and 2 p.m. April 7 and 14 in the Turner Studio Theatre of the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

Clark State’s Crystal Jones Named to AAWCC Women Under 40 Class of 2019

The Board of Directors of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) has selected Clark State Community College’s Crystal Jones as a member of the Women Under 40, Class of 2019. Each year the AAWCC recognizes women who are making a difference for their college and community. Jones will be honored at an awards breakfast on Sunday, April 14 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Clark State to Host Ohio House Representative, Chair of Education Sub-Committee Rick Carfagna

Clark State Community College will welcome Ohio House Representative Rick Carfagna to the Springfield campus on Monday, March 25. Carfagna is serving his second term in the Ohio House of Representatives and is also chair of the Higher Education Sub-Committee. Carfagna will begin by meeting with Clark State Executive Council at 9 a.m.; tour the Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center featuring the new 5-axis CNC machine at 9:30 a.m.; and end his time on campus by engaging with Clark State students at 10 a.m.

Clark State Scholars Program to Host Students for Campus Retreats

Clark State Community College will host students from the Champaign County Scholars program for student retreats Wednesday, March 20 and Friday, March 22. The purpose of Clark State Scholars retreats is to offer experiences focused around Clark State degree programs, career exploration, college readiness and student life for students. Approximately 40 eighth and ninth grade students are expected to attend the retreats from both Graham and Urbana local schools. The Clark State Scholars program offers three years of college at Clark State at no cost to the students upon graduation.

Clark State Community College will hold an open house for prospective students interested in learning more about what the college has to offer. The open house is designed for prospective students to get a one-stop experience highlighting academic programs and campus services and resources,” said Clarissa Beavers, admissions specialist for Clark State. The open house will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 in LRC building, Room 209 at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane.

Higher Learning Commission Reaffirms Accreditation to Clark State Through 2029

Clark State Community College has been reaffirmed for accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) through 2028-29. Clark State hosted a team from the HLC in December of 2018. The College has been accredited by the HLC since 1973. While visiting Clark State, the HLC team reviewed the institution’s continued ability to meet the criteria for accreditation. Accreditation validates the quality of an institution as a whole and evaluates multiple aspects of an institution ranging from its academic offerings, governance and administration, mission, finances and resources.

The Clark State Community College Diversity Committee in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Westcott House and Mother Stewart’s Brewing Company will host a PechaKucha Night on Thursday, March 21. The theme will be: Celebrating our Differences! Clark State’s Diversity Committee’s vision is to facilitate various opportunities to explore individual differences and engage in thoughtful discussions that encourage awareness, acceptance, compassion and respect, where everyone feels safe, included and equal. PechaKucha, which means “chit-chat” in Japanese, is a fun and informal event.

Vienna Boys Choir to Return to Performing Arts Center with Captivating Performance

Clark State Community College will welcome the sweet sounds of the Vienna Boys Choir to the stage of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Saturday, March 16. The Vienna Boys Choir, renowned as one of the finest vocal ensembles in the world, has previously performed at the PAC entrancing audience members with their angelic voices. The modern Vienna Boys Choir is comprised of talented young singers from all over the world who are admitted by audition.

Clark State to Hold Open House for Adjunct Faculty Employment

Clark State Community College will host an Adjunct Faculty Employment Open House on Tuesday, March 26 from 5 - 7 p.m. The College is seeking qualified, diverse, progressive instructors to teach classes in a variety of academic areas and formats for summer term beginning May 28 and fall term beginning August 19. Teaching opportunities may be during the day, evening or weekend at one of Clark State’s campuses or online. Applicants will meet with administrators and full-time program faculty at this open house to discuss qualifications and employment opportunities.

Cirque Mechanics: 42FT to Showcase Unique Circus Performance at Clark State Performing Arts Center

The Cirque Mechanics company will set the stage for a “Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels” with their performance of “42FT” on the stage of the Clark State Performing Arts Center in downtown Springfield. Cirque Mechanics, although inspired by modern circus, finds its roots in the mechanical and its heart in the stories of American ingenuity. The shows, rooted in realism, display a raw quality, rarely found in modern circus, which makes their message timeless and relevant. The stories are wrapped in circus acrobatics, mechanical wonders and a bit of clowning around.

Evans, Van Noord, Faculty and Staff Honored at Clark State’s Annual Charter Night

Clark State Community College celebrated its 53rd Annual Charter Night Tuesday, February 19 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. The annual event serves to remind the college and community about the establishment of Clark State’s charter in 1966 to operate as a post-secondary institution in the region. Clark State Board of Trustee member Sharon Evans was honored as the Champion of Clark State. Clark State also presented its fourth annual Diversity and Inclusion Award, this year honoring Melinda Van Noord, counseling coordinator for Clark State.

Clark State to Introduce New 5-Axis CNC Machine, Meets Local Employer Needs

Local manufacturers will get their first look at Clark State Community College’s latest addition to the Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5. Clark State, in collaboration with FASTLANE, invested in a 5-axis CNC machine in order to meet local workforce needs. The new 5-axis machine will allow for additional fourth and fifth axis machining capabilities. This technology will be introduced into Clark State’s current CNC certification with opportunities to further develop students’ CNC machining skills in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Manufacturing Technology Management degree.

Melissa Etheridge to Rock the Stage of the Clark State Performing Arts Center

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center (PAC) will welcome music icon Melissa Etheridge to the stage on Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. Etheridge will perform her hit songs and new music from her forthcoming album “The Medicine Show” scheduled for release on April 12. Etheridge’s popularity built around such memorable songs as “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs” and “Ain’t It Heavy” for which she won her first Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal. Tickets for Melissa Etheridge will go on sale to the public beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, February 15 at ticketmaster.com.
