Clark State’s Upcoming Workshop Will Help Students Apply for Foundation Scholarships

Clark State Community College will hold a workshop to assist students in completing applications for available Clark State Foundation scholarships. The Clark State Foundation scholarships are awarded for financial need, academic performance or a specific program of study to both full-time and part-time students. There are currently more than 50 different scholarships offered through the Clark State Foundation. Scholarships may be awarded for fall and/or spring semesters.

Clark State to Hold Employment Open House for Adjunct Faculty

Clark State Community College will host an Adjunct Faculty Employment Open House on Tuesday, October 29 from 5 - 7 p.m. on the main campus in Springfield. The College is seeking qualified, diverse, progressive instructors to teach classes in a variety of academic areas and formats. Teaching opportunities may be during the day, evening or weekend at one of Clark State’s campuses or online. Teaching experience is preferred - but not required - in all areas.

Theatre Re Brings Poignant Performance to the Clark State Performing Arts Center with The Nature of Forgetting

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center welcomes London’s Theatre Re for a one-time performance of The Nature of Forgetting; this poignant and powerful piece combines physical theatre with a live musical score. It is a journey of shining humanity and celebration of a life well lived. The Nature of Forgetting begins at 8 p.m., Friday, November 1 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue, Springfield. Clark State Announces Dean’s List for Summer 2019

Clark State Community College has announced the names of students who achieved the 2019 Summer Semester Dean's List. Three hundred twenty-four (324) students (those taking six or more credit hours) earned a 3.5 grade point average or better to receive dean’s list honors.

Clark State Will Host 12th Annual Volley for the Cure to Benefit Breast Cancer Endowment Fund of Clark County

Clark State Community College continues its health and wellness initiatives in October – breast cancer awareness month – by hosting its 12th annual Volley for the Cure. Volley for the Cure will be held on Wednesday, October 16 in the gymnasium on the Clark State Leffel Lane campus in Springfield. Teams from Clark State, Bobby Fisher Distributing and Assurant will participate. Family, friends and the community are encouraged to come watch the volleyball games and participate in the event. Additional activities include face painting, pumpkin painting, concessions, a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. The event is free and open to the public. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m.

Clark State Prepared to Train Local Workforce Through Ohio’s New TechCred Program

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and his administration unveiled the State of Ohio’s new TechCred program on September 25. The TechCred program is designed to train incumbent workers for in-demand jobs in Ohio. The Ohio TechCred program will fund up to 20,000 technology focused credentials over the next two years. Qualified credentials must be short-term (less than one year to complete), technology focused and industry recognized. Local businesses can begin the Ohio TechCred process by identifying skills needs and employees and connecting with an educational partner such as Clark State. Applications for the initial program are available online through October 31.

Clark State Theatre Arts Program to Conquer the Stage with a Fall Restoration Production

The Clark State Community College Theatre Arts program will present “She Stoops to Conquer” this November at the Performing Arts Center. Special guest Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State, will host a pre-show lecture on opening night of the production at 6 p.m., November 1. Show times for “She Stoops to Conquer” are set for November 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 8 p.m.; and November 3 and 10 at 2 p.m. in the Clark State Performing Arts Center Turner Studio Theatre, 300 South Fountain Avenue, Springfield. Tickets are $15 and are available online at ticketmaster.com. Clark State students get in free with a valid student ID.

The Clark State Community College Office of Student Support will offer several opportunities for students and the community to receive and participate in various services throughout the fall semester. The Office of Student Support provides support to address a variety of issues, including housing displacement, lack of childcare, transportation barriers, financial emergencies, food insecurity and physical health and wellness.

Project Jericho’s ChalkFest Will Bring Artists, Community Together for Third Event

Project Jericho, Clark State Community College’s youth outreach program, will present the third annual ChalkFest chalk-art festival and contest on Saturday, October 5. ChalkFest will also include the annual Project Scare-A-Crow exhibit. This year the theme is unique superheroes. The scarecrow installation goes up October 2 and is taken down on October 29. ChalkFest will begin at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 5 at the National Road Commons Park.

Carpenter, Colvin to Kick-Off 2019-20 Performing Arts Season on October 19

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center will welcome singer-songwriters and longtime friends Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin to the stage of the Kuss Auditorium on Saturday, October 19. Carpenter and Colvin—friends for over 30 years—will appear on stage together as an intimate acoustic duo, swapping songs and sharing stories. These special shows will feature the acclaimed songwriters performing material from their vast catalogues as well as some of their favorite songs. Mary Chapin Carpenter & Shawn Colvin: Together on Stage begins at 8 p.m., Saturday, October 19 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available on ticketmaster.com.

Clark State Welcomes CareSource JobConnect Life Coach to Campus as Part of Student Support Services

The Clark State Community College Office of Student Support now has a CareSource JobConnect life coach on campus weekly to provide students with additional support services. Clark State alumnus and certified life coach Eric Mata works with a range of clients and coaches them to a higher quality of life. His expertise is working with members in recovery from opiate addiction and guiding them through the process of obtaining employment, career development, education and achieving goals the client has for themselves, all while building a solid foundation for a life in recovery.

Clark State to Host Presidential Awards, Raise Funds for Clark State Foundation Scholarships

Clark State Community College will host its first Presidential Awards banquet on Wednesday, October 2 in support of the Clark State Foundation. The event was created to honor the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus, Emerging Leader and Richard O. Brinkman awards, as well as to raise funds for student scholarships. The Foundation scholarships are awarded for financial need, academic performance or a specific program of study to both full-time and part-time students. The Presidential Awards banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. Tickets are $75.

Clark State President Supports Ohio’s New TechCred Program

The DeWine administration unveiled the State of Ohio’s new TechCred program September 25. The TechCred program is designed to train incumbent workers for in-demand jobs in Ohio. “Clark State Community College is excited for the opportunity to work with local businesses to offer industry-focused credentials and training that will strengthen the local workforce and bridge the skills gap. I applaud Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted for addressing the challenge of training workers with the skills businesses need in today’s changing workforce,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “We appreciate the administration’s continued support of workforce development.”

Clark State’s Dr. Matt Franz to be Honored with comSpark Tech Power Player Award

Dr. Matt Franz, Clark State Community College vice president of information technology & emergency management, has been selected for the comSpark Tech Power Player Award. The comSpark Tech Power Player Award is given to the leading CIOs, CTOs, CISOs and other senior-level IT executives. This award celebrates the leadership of executives in both public and privately-held companies, as well as leading non-profits and government institutions. The Tech Power Player designation represents leadership excellence in technology.

Clark State Launches Third Annual Fitness Challenge

Clark State Community College has launched its third annual Fitness Challenge for faculty, staff and students. The Clark State Fitness Challenge encompasses two challenges: overall fitness (based on weight loss percentage) and the step challenge. Overall fitness results will be based on the percentage of body weight lost and the number of steps will be based on the total amount of actual steps taken throughout the challenge. Clark State to Hold Women’s Basketball Try-Outs September 23

Clark State Community College will hold women’s basketball try-outs at 7 p.m., Monday, September 23 in the gymnasium located at the Leffel Lane campus in Springfield. The Clark State women’s basketball season begins October 1 and runs until early March. Eligible student-athletes must be enrolled as a full-time student for the fall 2019 semester to play on the Eagles women’s basketball team.

Open House Planned for New Mercy Health Clinic at Clark State

Clark State Community College and Mercy Health will hold an open house in the Mercy Health Primary Care clinic on Wednesday, September 11 from noon to 3 p.m. The new health clinic serves as the primary medical care facility for Clark State students, faculty, staff and the community at large. It will also likely be used for student clinical experiences and internships. The new Mercy Health Primary Care clinic is located on the first floor of the Clark State Applied Science Center, 570 East Leffel Lane, Springfield. Visitors will be able to meet with the clinic staff, take a tour and learn about the full range of services provided.
