Clark State Will Offer Cybersecurity Internship Opportunities This Summer

February 26, 2016

Clark State Community College is now accepting applications for the Cybersecurity Summer Internship Program. For ten weeks, beginning June 6, interns will work four days a week in an IT/cybersecurity training position. They will obtain actual work experience while getting paid. Students will also make business contacts and work under the direction of seasoned cybersecurity and academia experts.

Clark State Adjunct Professor H. Dale Rude said there are 12-13 paid internship openings for both full- and part-time students. “Students will get to network with IT professionals and make connections with local industry partners, while gaining hands-on experience in a very high demand career field,” said Rude.

Interns will work directly with local businesses and externs and will participate in a “Hackfest” where they will have the opportunity to "break into" computer networks in a controlled laboratory environment. “The experience will help them understand how to better protect against adversarial hackers,” Rude said.

No experience is necessary to obtain an internship position, but applicants should have an interest in information technology. Rude said cybersecurity is a fast growing career field, and the availability of jobs is much greater than the availability of trained experts. “Many of the previous interns from our program have gone on to obtain good paying jobs in the local area and are now using their skills to assist in real world applications,” he said. “This has been a very successful program, and we are looking forward to another great summer.”

Applications must be completed and returned by March 18, 2016.
