Clark State Community College will offer a free Cybersecurity Workshop at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 24 in Room 136 of the LRC building on the Leffel Lane campus in Springfield.
The workshop will expose ten practical ways to help protect personal computers, laptops or other electronic devices from intrusion by hackers. The one-hour workshop is sponsored by the Clark State Cybersecurity program and is being taught by faculty and students as a community outreach effort to local businesses and residents of Springfield, Clark County and surrounding areas.
“One can hardly read a newspaper, watch the nightly news or surf the internet and not be made aware of yet another cybersecurity hack,” said Howard Rude, adjunct professor of Business and Applied Technologies for Clark State and co-principal investigator for the National Science Foundation ATE Grant. “Many have been reduced to financial ruin by cybercriminals, and others have had their email accounts hacked and personal identifiable information compromised, causing untold harm and irreparable damage.”
Credit card information, financial records, personally identifiable information, email addresses, private correspondence and banking information are all susceptible to cyber-attacks.
Academic cybersecurity professionals will be on-hand to answer questions. Information about careers in cybersecurity and Clark State's Cybersecurity degree and certificate programs will also be available.
