Clark State Community College will welcome Dr. Michael Brown to the interim position of vice president for academic affairs (VPAA).
Dr. Brown has served as interim VPAA at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, CT. Prior to that position, he was provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at North Carolina Wesleyan. Dr. Brown has considerable accreditation experience through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
“Dr. Michael Brown has extensive experience working with both academic and workforce programs in a variety of higher educational institutions, including community colleges,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “Dr. Brown brings a broad knowledge of accreditation to Clark State, and that knowledge will be critical during our reaccreditation process. Additionally, he has been a faculty member and understands the diversity of skills that our faculty bring to the campus to increase student learning.”
Brown holds a Ph.D. in school psychology, an M.S. in family and child development and a B.S. in biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has received numerous awards and honors including the East Carolina University Centennial Award for Excellence and the Distinguished Scholar Award from the North Carolina College Personnel Association.
Brown will begin his service to Clark State on May 7. He will lead in this position until a permanent vice president of academic affairs is named.
