Clark State to Maintain Distance Learning Format for Summer Semester

April 10, 2020

With the continued health and safety of students and employees in mind, Clark State Community College will maintain a distance learning environment for all classes during the 2020 summer semester which begins on May 26.

“Clark State provides quality instruction in any environment, and our innovative faculty have broad experience in delivering education in multiple formats,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “Clark State is affordable, and our staff do a great job of providing every service that students would receive face-to-face in an online or remote format. While we cannot wait to welcome our students back to campus, we are offering all classes in online and remote formats out of an abundance of caution.”

Clark State quickly and seamlessly pivoted to all distance learning courses on March 16 following the guidance of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to implement social distancing measures in effort to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Students already registered for summer semester courses were notified of the online or alternate class format changes. There is the potential of classes returning to a face-to-face format during the term if conditions allow.

Even with the closure of all campus locations due to the current stay-at-home directive from Gov. DeWine, Clark State continues to successfully enroll and register students for summer semester online via the Clark State website and MyClarkState student portal.

"I know students have a lot to think about right now, and we want them to know we are thinking of their safety,” said Dr. Theresa Felder, senior vice president of student success at Clark State. “Students can enroll completely online--including orientation and advising. All student services staff are available remotely to help students register for our high-quality online courses and to support their success in the courses.”

Felder said Clark State is prepared and able to maintain a distance learning environment and opportunity for all students, including those in the health programs such as the Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing and Medical Laboratory Technician programs which require clinical experiences. Required clinical experiences are able to be completed virtually at this time.
