Clark State Community College will host “Diversity Uncovered on Two-Year Campuses” on March 30 and 31 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield.
Faculty, staff, students, administrators and community members are invited to attend the first-of-its-kind diversity conference at Clark State.
“This event is important because Clark State recognizes the diverse educational needs of our community,” said Crystal Jones, faculty co-chair of the Diversity Committee and program coordinator for the management program at Clark State. “Clark State is hosting this event to demonstrate our commitment to diversity; specifically, by creating awareness, networking with other colleges in Ohio, with organizations and our community to ensure we are mindful and responsive to our students.”
Jones said attendees will leave with an understanding of the importance of diversity awareness and how it relates to student success and retention on a two-year campus.
Guest speaker Eric Ellis will present on both days. Ellis will speak on Thursday at the student forum which is also open to students from colleges outside of Clark State. Student registration is free. This event will include a DJ, food and conversation, titled "Embracing Diversity Conversations - Building a Culture of Respect." Ellis will speak on Friday as the lunch keynote speaker during the conference.
Ellis provides strategic corporate culture and learning solutions for multinational organizations, mid-sized businesses, educational institutions and public sector organizations. He is an accomplished business leader who has shaped high-performing cultures at Fortune 500 companies. Ellis’ expertise is leveraged to coach organizational leaders on retention issues/strategies and career development programs.
There will be additional presenters from Marion Technical College, Central State University, The Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright State University, Sinclair Community College and Clark State Community College.
“We will also host a networking session, which will include booths from the NAACP, Developmental Disabilities of Clark County, Project Woman, American Cancer Society, Community Health Foundation and the Equality of Clark County,” said Jones.
