Clark State to Host “Catch the Mic!” Event in Celebration of Graduation

May 8, 2019

Clark State Community College will host Catch the Mic! presented by the Men of Clark State and in honor of the Class of 2019 on Friday, May 10 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Clark State Eagle’s Nest located at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane.

Catch the Mic! is a community event celebrating male graduates of Clark State and the spoken word (poetry). Patrons will hear from talented poets and artists in the surrounding area who will be performing and sharing their art.

“The evening will consist of a celebration for graduates providing them with custom stoles and an opportunity for the public to share their art: poetry, music, etc.,” said Clarissa Beavers, admissions specialist at Clark State. “We are excited to honor Men of Clark State graduates and provide a community event for art lovers.”

Beavers said Catch the Mic! is an extension of Honesty Hour, regularly hosted in Columbus at Lincoln Café. It is a collaboration with DJ Teef, owner of The Creative Committee and 1803 The Brand About Home; and Forte, creator of N.A.S.T.Y. (Never Allow Society to Trap You) and an event planner.

There will be five scheduled performers followed by an open mic session at the end of the night that is open to the public.

“Readings must be five minutes or less,” said Beavers. “And is first-come, first-serve for anyone interested in sharing their poetry.”

Food and refreshments will be offered. Contact Raphael Allen, allenr1@clarkstate.edu or Clarissa Beavers, beaversc@clarkstate.edu for more on how to participate.
