Clark State to Host Brake The Cycle, Face-off in Community Basketball Game

May 25, 2021

Brake the Cycle - a young men's non-profit club designed to teach youth how to be respectful, responsible young men – will be at Clark State College on Leffel Lane in Springfield from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 27.

Founded in 2020, Brake the Cycle addresses issues facing youth through speaking, workshops and more.

At Thursday’s event, Brake the Cycle will face off in a basketball game with Clark State employees and students.

“Our goal is to bring our community together while also building our youth up,” said James Cooper, founder of Brake the Cycle. “We hope this event brings success to both sides and networking opportunities as well.”

Cooper grew up in Springfield and played basketball for Springfield South High School. He earned a scholarship to the College of Wooster where he continued his basketball career.

Brake the Cycle and Clark State hope to meet with 15 to 20 students from grades 4 through 12 about the importance of attending college and then playing a game of basketball.

A meet-and-greet with Clark State students will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and include a campus tour, college information and more.

The basketball game will begin at 6 p.m. and be held inside the gymnasium. The event is free of charge.
