Clark State to Honor United States Military Veterans with Virtual Activities

November 6, 2020

Clark State Community College will commemorate Veterans Day with the display of more than 1,000 United States flags at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane, the Greene Center in Beavercreek and at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine. The POW/MIA flag will be raised at the Springfield Leffel Lane campus Monday, November 9.

The College will also honor United States veterans with virtual events as Clark State continues the fall semester with limited students and staff on campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are proud to honor the veterans and military that have served and are serving us,” said Justin McCulla, director of athletics and student life at Clark State. “While some of our commemorative activities have been redirected to a virtual format, I still encourage all to join us as we recognize the accomplishments and sacrifices of the men and women in our nation's military.”

Virtual events will include a memorial table in honor of veterans; a student email discussing the meaning and history of Veterans Day; and a 10 question Ohio Veterans Day quiz for individuals to complete for a chance to win a prize.

Clark State will be closed in honor of Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11; no classes will be held in person or online.

Clark State currently serves United States military veteran students, active military students, National Guard and Reserve students, dependents and military spouses.

Clark State received the designation of Top School in the 2018 Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAE&T) Guide to Colleges & Universities. This honor is awarded to institutions with the very best practices in military- and veteran-supportive education.

In 2015 Clark State was designated as a Purple Heart Campus and was approved by the Community College of the Air Force as a General Education Mobile (GEM) partner. Clark State was the first community college in Ohio to receive this approval. The College also features a Veterans Lounge that provides student veterans with a place to unwind, study, hold meetings or network.

Clark State students have also been inducted into the SALUTE National Honor Society. SALUTE – Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, Excellence - is the only national honor society recognizing and honoring the service and scholastic achievements of student veterans.

Clark State offers a 50 percent tuition discount to active duty military students in Ohio and a 25 percent discount to eligible spouses.
