Alpha Nu Lambda, Clark State College’s chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), held a spring induction ceremony on Wednesday, April 20 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield.
Thirty-nine (39) Clark State students were inducted into the organization.
To be an eligible candidate for PTK, students must have completed at least 12 college-level credit hours and have a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Students pay a one-time fee of $80 for a lifetime membership. Membership benefits include scholarships; free access to Five Star Competitive Edge, a personal and professional development plan for building marketable skills and an online portfolio; increased pay grade for entry-level federal jobs; tuition discounts; and more.
Keynote speaker at the induction event was 2019 Clark State graduate Christopher Sineno. He holds an associate degree in Applied Business Management. During his time at Clark State, Sineno was an active member of Student Senate and Phi Theta Kappa.
Following graduation Sineno went on to start a real estate investment company with his fiancé, Tiffany. Additionally, Chris is an executive leader of a property management and investment organization in Greater Dayton.
“Clark State College provided opportunities I would have not otherwise had as a developing student striving to make a difference in the world,” said Sineno. “From scholarships offerings to a comprehensive network of services like PTK, I felt empowered as a student and had the support I needed to succeed. It is an honor to continue to be a part of the legacy for these organizations and a voice for the students they represent.”

Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2 million members and 1,200 chapters located in 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada and Germany. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
