Clark State President to Attend State of the Union Address

January 20, 2015

Clark State Community College President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin will attend the 2015 State of the Union address in Washington D.C. as a guest of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner.

Boehner (R-OH) was re-elected to represent the Eighth Congressional District of Ohio in November of 2014. He extended the invitation to Blondin earlier this month.

“I am looking forward to being a part of this historic event and am truly honored to be asked to attend by our Speaker,” Blondin said. “Clark State plays a critical educational and workforce role in Ohio’s Eighth Congressional District, and Speaker Boehner recognizes the important work we do to be responsive to workforce needs and provide an affordable, quality education for students.”

Blondin was in Washington D.C. for Martin Luther King, Jr. commemorative events on Monday. She will meet with Boehner at a reception prior to the State of the Union address on Tuesday, and then proceed to the House of Representatives’ Gallery.

This is the first time Blondin has attended a State of the Union address, and she said it is “literally a dream come true.”

President Obama will deliver his sixth State of the Union at 9 p.m. ET, Tuesday, January 20 from the U.S. Capitol.
