The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center has a little something for everyone in the month of February.
The highly-acclaimed Central State University Choir will perform at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, February 2. Under the direction of Professor Jeremy Winston, the choir has a repertoire encompassing all periods and styles, including spirituals of African Americans, gospel and jazz. The main chorus consists of more than 100 students from all academic disciplines.
Tickets to the performance are free and available at the Clark State Performing Arts Center box office.
Rosanne Cash will make her debut at the Clark State Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 11. Adele Adkins, executive director of the Clark State Performing Arts Center, worked with CAPA in Columbus to find a weekend both organizations could lure Cash to the area.
One of the country’s pre-eminent singer/songwriters, Cash has released 15 albums of songs that have earned four Grammy® Awards and nominations for 11 more, as well as 21 Top-40 hits, including 11 No. 1 singles. Cash’s landmark 2009 album, “The List,” won the Americana Music Album of the Year award.
“Although Cash is often classified as a country artist, her music draws on many genres including folk, pop, rock, blues and most notably, Americana,” Adkins said.
Her latest show celebrates her highly-acclaimed and three-time Grammy winning album “The River & the Thread.” Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com and range in price from $38 to $78.
Following Cash, Rick Springfield will take the stage at the Performing Arts Center for the first time on Tuesday, February 14.
With 25 million records sold, a Grammy® Award for his No. 1 smash-hit Jessie’s Girl and whopping 17 Top-40 hits including Don’t Talk to Strangers, An Affair of the Heart, I've Done Everything for You, Love Somebody and Human Touch, Springfield has no intention of taking his foot off the accelerator. “I put everything I've got into making records,” he says. “Sometimes people think they have you pegged, but I trust my music to show them otherwise.”
Adkins has been working to get Springfield to the city of Springfield, Ohio, for more than a year. She said Springfield’s “stripped down” show is perfect for the Clark State Performing Arts Center. “It will be an intimate show which includes all his hits but will also include storytelling and a question and answer period with him.”
