Clark State Nursing Program Receives ACEN Accreditation Renewal

April 23, 2020

Clark State Community College’s Registered Nursing program has renewed its official accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

ACEN supports the interests of nursing education, nursing practice and the public by the functions of accreditation. Accreditation is a peer-review, self-regulatory process by which non-governmental associations recognize educational institutions or programs that have been found to meet or exceed standards and criteria for educational quality.

“I am so proud of the work of our leadership team, the Registered Nursing faculty and the staff on their diligent work to achieve the continued accreditation of our associate degree nursing program,” said Dr. Tiffany Hunter, vice president of academic affairs for Clark State. “This is a major accomplishment, and I am happy to know that our students will continue to be well prepared for the nursing profession.”

In September of last year, the Clark State Community College-Springfield Regional School of Nursing hosted a site visit for continuing accreditation of its associate degree nursing program by ACEN. The public was invited to meet the ACEN site visit team and share comments about the program in person.

The accreditation was awarded by the Board of Commissioners in March and is valid through the fall of 2027. While accreditation is voluntary, it assures that faculty and staff are developing opportunities for student growth as well as preparedness.

Accreditation also assists in the further improvement of the institutions or programs as related to resources invested, processes followed and results achieved. The monitoring of certificate, diploma and degree offerings is tied closely to state examination and licensing rules and to the oversight of preparation for work in the profession.

The Clark State Registered Nursing program is available at the Springfield and Beavercreek campuses. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN examination.
