Clark State, Local Philanthropist Bring Magical Math to Community

Clark State Community College will welcome Mathemagician Dr. Arthur Benjamin to the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center for two complimentary performances on Thursday, March 23.

Benjamin is the Smallwood Family Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College, and a professional magician who entertains with faster-than-a-calculator mental addition, multiplication and other amazing feats of the mind. For the last 30 years, he has presented his mixture of math and magic all over the world to thousands of groups. He is the winner of the national teaching award from the Mathematical Association of America and was listed by Princeton Review as one of America’s Top 300 Professors. Reader’s Digest calls him “America’s Best Math Whiz.”

“Dr. Art Benjamin brings magic and math together, engaging audiences of diverse interests and ages,” said Kanesha Hall, STEM programming manager at Clark State. “He is well-known for his fabulous TED talks and stellar ability to convey the wonders and depths of mathematics.”

Both events are free thanks to generous sponsorship of Rosalyn Bullock in honor of her late husband Willis Bullock and attorney Daniel C. Harkins. The 9:30 a.m. Mathemagician Show is for students in grades 6 through 12, their parents and math teachers from all schools. Seating is limited; an RSVP by March 20, 2017, is required. The Mathemagician community event at 7 p.m. is for the general public; tickets are required for entry. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
