Clark State Holds Financial Aid “College Goal Sunday” This Weekend

February 11, 2016

Clark State will host the state-wide college financial aid event “College Goal Sunday” (CGS) Sunday, February 14, at 2 p.m. in the Rotunda of the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center on the Leffel Lane campus.

The free event, presented by the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) and endorsed by the Ohio Department of Higher Education, assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the federal application that is required to receive federal financial aid including the Federal Pell Grant and student loans as well as the need-based state grants.

“Completing the FAFSA can often seem overwhelming for students and families,” said Kathy Klay, Clark State financial aid director. “College Goal Sunday is there to assist with the application process and to answer basic questions about financial aid eligibility.”

Klay said students should be prepared with 2015 income and tax information for themselves and their parents, and she encourages at least one parent to attend. Students and families are recommended to register prior to the event by calling 1-800-233-6734 or online at: http://ohiocollegegoalsunday.org/CGSStudent_2016.html.

Klay said Clark State has hosted CGS for about ten years and is open to students planning to attend a wide variety of colleges. “This event is targeted to high school seniors and families, but it is open to anyone needing assistance with the FAFSA,” said Klay.

The FAFSA is the key to funding a college education and helping families to overcome financial barriers that otherwise prevent students from attending the institution of their choice.

OASFAA is a non-profit, professional organization for individuals actively engaged in the administration of financial aid within the State of Ohio for higher education. As an educational organization, OASFAA strives to offer resources to students, families and high school advisors to promote higher education and increase awareness of financial aid opportunities.
