Clark State Community College will hold Scholarship Recognition Night on Friday, October 5 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield.
“This important annual event gives us an opportunity to recognize our donors for their generous support and our students for their accomplishments,” said Toni Overholser, director of the Clark State Foundation. “These scholarships impact our students in such a positive way, and they would not be available without the support of our community members. It nice to come together and celebrate.”
The Clark State Foundation has awarded $161,700 in scholarships so far this academic year to 129 students who will be honored at the event along with the recipients of the Trustee Scholarships, Champion City Scholars, Choose Ohio First Scholarships and Tech Prep Scholarships.
Sean Pierce will speak at the event. Pierce is enrolled in the Paramedic-to-RN program and taking classes at Clark State’s Beavercreek location. He received the Springfield Foundation Nursing Scholarship for $500 and the Veterans Scholarship for $1,000.
Pierce currently works for the Springfield City Fire Department and part-time as a paramedic for Springfield Regional Medical Center. He said he knew there would be several hurdles to overcome when he decided to enroll in college including the financial commitment.
“The Clark State Foundation scholarships have been key in helping me reach my financial goal of graduating debt free,” said Pierce. “I feel fortunate that I am able to receive these scholarships to help pay for my schooling.”
The Foundation scholarship funds can be used for tuition, fees and books for students at Clark State. The Clark State Foundation has more than 60 different restricted scholarships that have been established by donors and businesses in our community.
“I’m always telling my classmates and coworkers about the opportunities Clark State has,” said Pierce. “Not only is it one of the least expensive colleges, but has a huge opportunity to help fund your education. That’s a pretty big deal. It’s close for a lot of people with some really great and unique programs.”
Scholarship Recognition Night will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 South Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio.
