Clark State Employees Feed Eight Families Thanksgiving Dinner

November 25, 2014

In partnership with Kroger on North Limestone Street, Clark State Community College will provide Thanksgiving dinner for eight Springfield families on Thursday. The annual event is organized by Clark State’s Staff Senate who worked with faculty and staff to identify families in need.

“Faculty and staff members nominated people they knew might benefit from a little extra help this holiday. We also had a few people who heard about the program and called in, requesting to be nominated,” said Catherine Stipe, advancement specialist, Clark State Community College. “Due to the generosity of Clark State employees, we were able to help them all.”

The number of families fed was based on the amount of money raised through a poinsettia fundraiser. General donations were also collected.

“This is a great way for Clark State to not only engage the Springfield community, but educate students on needs outside of the classroom,” said Matthew Ison, Staff Senate president and admissions specialist, Clark State Community College.

The hot and ready meals are prepared by Kroger and will serve six people per family. Families can choose between Cajun fried, smoked or oven roasted turkey. The meal also comes with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie.
