Clark State COVID Country Concert with Country Star Wyatt McCubbin

May 11, 2020

Clark State Community College will host a summer concert on Saturday, June 13 at 7 p.m. with country sensation Wyatt McCubbin and special guests from Nashville.

The COVID Country Concert will be held in the parking lot of the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center on Clark State’s main campus at 570 East Leffel Lane in Springfield. Tickets are $25 per vehicle and must be purchased in advance.

“In the middle of a pandemic, we will be hosting a live concert in a new way,” said Adele Adkins, executive director of the Clark State Performing Arts Center. “The music will not be transmitted through car radios, but speakers will be set up throughout the parking lot. The sound and vibrations from the speakers will create the ‘live’ experience.”

Patrons will be asked to remain in their vehicles, provide their own concessions and adhere to social distances measures in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Adkins said this concert event is a way to keep live music available to the community while being safe and allowing people to feel like they are at a real concert. “The difference is they are in their car with their friends and family,” she said. “It’s going to mimic the live concert and create the live concert energy.”

McCubbin said it is always great to come back home to Ohio and play music regardless of the situation. He said this type of performance is a first for him and likely the audience, too.

“I want to bring a fun, laid back experience to the audience,” said McCubbin. “I talked a few of my great musician friends into coming up from Nashville with me, and I want to almost have a ‘jam session’ style concert. It’ll be a blast!”

McCubbin is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Selma, Ohio. Since graduating high school in 2013, Wyatt makes regular trips from Ohio to Nashville writing with and gaining support from some of Nashville’s top songwriters as both a writer and a country artist. Wyatt has had his songs recorded by artists such as Jake Worthington, Flatt Lonesome and Josh Ward among others.

“I’m looking forward to having some fun in one big parkin’ lot party,” McCubbin said. “I guess if I hear people honkin’ their horns or revvin’ their engines up, I’ll know I’m doin’ somethin’ right!”

Tickets for the Wyatt McCubbin parking lot performance are $25 per vehicle and will be available for purchase on ticketmaster.com at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18.
