Clark State Continues Work to Close Equity Gaps Through Participation in Achieving the Dream

July 15, 2020

Clark State Community College has been accepted as a participant in the Achieving the Dream (ATD) 2020 Cohort. Clark State joins five other community colleges in this cohort. Clark State’s participation will enable the College to champion evidence-based institutional improvement.

Clark State has followed the progress and success of many community colleges who have participated in Achieving the Dream.

“We are honored to have been selected for membership in Achieving the Dream,” said Dr. Tiffany Hunter, vice president of academic affairs for Clark State. “We are looking forward to working with our assigned data coaches and the other member institutions from around the country to strengthen our work around data and the best approaches on how to close equity and achievement gaps.”

Hunter said the work through ATD will allow Clark State to delve deeper into its data and determine the best course of action for supporting students as they pursue their educational and career goals. The College initially identified equity gaps including by race, age and socioeconomic status but would like to continue the work.

“The work that is done by Achieving the Dream is unparalleled,” Dr. Pam Y. Eddinger, chair, Achieving the Dream Board of Directors says in a statement. “When we focus on meeting students—all students—where they are, and on understanding that their unique experiences are what bring such cultural wealth to our community colleges, we do a service both to the students and to their institutions.”

The Clark State ATD team consisting of ten faculty and staff members will be attending the ATD Virtual Kickoff Institute July 14-16. All Clark State faculty and staff are invited to attend the plenary sessions.

Conceived as an initiative in 2004 by Lumina Foundation and seven founding partner organizations, Achieving the Dream now leads the most comprehensive non-governmental reform movement for student success in higher education history. Together with our Network of over 277 institutions of higher education, 75 coaches and advisors, and numerous investors and partners working throughout 44 states and the District of Columbia we are helping more than 4 million community college students have a better chance of realizing greater economic opportunity and achieving their dreams.
