Clark State Adds 12-Week Term to Fall, Spring Semesters

August 30, 2019

Clark State Community College is now offering 12-week, D-term courses during the fall and spring semesters.

Ron Gordon, dean of enrollment services for Clark State, said as an open access institution, students are applying to Clark State at various times of the year and expecting the opportunity to begin taking classes as soon as possible.

“To meet that need and to allow students ample time to complete all aspects of the enrollment process, the college added a 12-week term,” he said. “This term begins four weeks after the first 8-week and 16-week terms. The goal is to provide students an opportunity to get started as soon as they can, while ensuring they are amply prepared.”

Gordon said D-term is slightly accelerated compared to the 16-week term. Students will have 12 weeks of instruction beginning September 16 and will conclude the first week of December.

This is the first time Clark State is offering the shorter 12-week term, and the class offerings are primarily general education classes, such as English I, Spanish I, sociology and math, but do include a few technical courses such as Computer Software Development and Principles of Management.

Gordon said Clark State expects the demand for the 12-week terms to grow with students and anticipates more course offerings in future semesters.

“Adding a 12-week term is a great opportunity for students who may have started the enrollment process late and felt pressured to get their academic and financial affairs in order quickly before classes were to start August 19, or for our current students who can take advantage of adding a class to their schedule,” said Gordon. “Students now have more academic options which will lead to their success.”

The 12-week fall D-term semester begins September 16. The 8-week fall B-term semester begins October 14. All terms will conclude on December 6 with Spring semester beginning in January of 2020. Clark State offers year-round registration. Assistance is available in the Records and Registration Office in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center, Room 114 or Greene Center Student Services, Room 202.
