Project Jericho Receives Continued Funding, Looks Forward to Fall Programming

Clark State Community College’s youth outreach program – Project Jericho – has been selected to receive continued funding from the Clark County Department of Job and Family Services for two years of services. Project Jericho strengthens families and equips individuals with higher self-esteem and better communication skills. The 2018 Project Scare-A-Crow theme will be "Crows Incognito" and begins in mid-September. “CHALKTOBERFEST” features the annual Project Scare-A-Crow installation and hosts a chalk art competition to be held on Saturday, October 6 at National Road Commons Park.

Kanesha Scott Named Director of Clark State’s Scholars Program

Kanesha Scott has been named director of the Scholars program at Clark State Community College. The Scholars program encompasses the Champion City Scholars, Champaign County Scholars and the newly developed Clark County Scholars. Scott has been with Clark State since 2015 as the STEM program manager. The Scholars program identifies low-income middle school students who will become the first in their families to earn a college degree. Upon their graduation, the Scholars students will be eligible for three years of college at Clark State, at no cost to the students.

Clark State Continues Health Initiatives with Tobacco-Free Campus

All Clark State Community College campuses are officially tobacco-free. The revised policy prohibits smoking, electronic cigarettes and the use of alternative nicotine products; excluding nicotine cessation chewing gum and patches. Clark State’s tobacco-free policy became effective Friday, June 1.

Clark State’s Turner Theatre to become Jazz Club with Featured Performance by Graham Breedlove

The Clark State Performing Arts Center will welcome jazz great Graham Breedlove to the Turner Studio Theatre on Friday, September 14. An Evening of Jazz with Graham Breedlove and Special Guest: award-winning vocalist Lucy Breedlove will take the stage at 8 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue in Springfield. Clark State Partners with Clark County Board of Elections to Ensure Voter Security

Clark State Community College will partner with the Clark County Board of Elections (BOE) to assess the technology equipment, policies and procedures prior to the upcoming Ohio general elections on November 6 this year. The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have jointly sponsored the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) program. The program is focused on reducing vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense, while also producing professionals with cyber defense expertise.

Clark State Theatre Arts Program Plans for 2018-19 Productions, Auditions

The 2018-19 academic year is just underway at Clark State Community College, but the Theatre Arts program is in full-swing. This year’s productions include Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and The Lion in Winter. The fall 2018 show, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was written by renowned American playwright Tennessee Williams. The spring 2019 show, The Lion in Winter is a family drama set in 1183 at the court of Henry II and was written by James Goldman. Auditions for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 4 in the Turner Studio Theatre of the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

Clark State Student Registration Open Today, Early Next Week

Clark State Community College will be open for student registration until noon today, August 18. Clark State will extend course registration by one to two days. Our Student Services professionals will provide increased support to help students prepare for class and get into a course section as quickly as possible.

Clark State Announces Dean’s List for Summer Semester 2018

Clark State Community College has announced the names of students who achieved the 2018 Summer Semester Dean's List. Eleven (11) full-time students (those taking 12 or more credit hours) and two hundred ninety-four (294) part-time students (those taking 6-11 credit hours) earned a 3.5 grade point average or better to receive dean's list honors.

Clark State Faculty Member Stumbles Upon Idea for Successful OB Lab

Clark State Community College faculty Jan Didich literally stumbled onto an idea for her students last fall semester. Didich, associate professor of practical nursing at Clark State, fell and broke her wrist the day before classes began in August of 2017. Didich, along with Kathi Stute, nursing skills and simulation lab coordinator for Clark State, developed the obstetrics simulation lab for Practical Nursing (LPN) students at the Clark State Ohio Hi-Point location in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Didich said the simulation included what students would experience in a hospital setting, but with a simulation maniken.

Clark State’s Robyn Hennigan Receives Distinguished CASE Award of Excellence

Robyn Hennigan, Clark State Community College assistant professor and program coordinator for the Realtime Court Reporting program has been awarded the Council on Approved Student Education (CASE) Award of Excellence. The CASE award is conferred upon an outstanding educator who exemplifies dedication to students and extraordinary contributions to reporter education. Hennigan has worked in the field of court reporting since 1989 as a freelance reporter, both for a firm and freelance business; official court reporter in the Clark County Juvenile Court; providing captioning services; and owned and operated a scoping and proofreading business.

Clark State to Honor Adjunct Faculty for Years of Service to College, Students

Clark State Community College will honor more than 30 adjunct faculty members for their years of service at the Adjunct Faculty Appreciation dinner August 15 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. Shashi Chadha has been an adjunct instructor at Clark State for 40 years; she also served on the Clark State Foundation Board of Directors. Terry Black, a lifetime resident of Springfield, will be recognized for his 20 years as a Clark State adjunct instructor. Black teaches business and accounting courses.

Clark State to Hold Convocation August 13 as President Blondin Begins 6th Year with College

Clark State Community College President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin will host her sixth Convocation on Monday, August 13. Blondin entered her sixth year of service with the College in July of this year. Clark State student-athletes will be present at Convocation to introduce the Higher Learning Commission’s Criteria for Accreditation, and Blondin will speak briefly about the upcoming HLC visit in December. Dr. Linnea Stenson, the Clark State staff liaison at the Higher Learning Commission, will also elaborate on the details of the HLC visit. Clark State Convocation will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center. Clark State campus will open at 11:30 a.m. following Convocation.

Clark State Agriculture Land Lab Flooded with Additional Project Funding

Clark State Community College will receive $25,000 from the Community College Alliance for Agriculture Advancement (C2A3) grant for the development of soil health curriculum, supplementary materials and workshops for current students and producers. The grant will support the field days and demonstration efforts for the Soil Health Partnership Initiative with the National Corn Growers Association. There were approximately 160 initial proposals with 28 invited for a full submission. Of those submissions, 16 were selected for funding, including Clark State. Clark State received $4,812,895 from the Higher Education Improvement Fund of the Ohio State Capital Bill as passed by the House and Senate last spring; $200,000 was slated for the Precision Agriculture land laboratory.

Toni Overholser Named New Director of Clark State Foundation

Clark State Community College has appointed Toni Overholser as director of the Clark State Foundation. Overholser has been with Clark State since 2014. She has served in the capacity of director of workforce development and the director of business and community development. The Clark State Foundation seeks to ensure that a high-quality college education is accessible to all. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that creates and maintains community awareness and partners with donors to receive, manage and disburse gifts that initiate and support educational and cultural programs for Clark State and its constituents.

Clark State Students Saved More than $372,000 with Implementation of Virtual Bookstore

Clark State Community College continues to maintain a quality, affordable education for students. Just one year following the implementation of the eCampus bookstore, Clark State announced a student savings of $372,253.00. eCampus is an online bookstore format that allows students the option to purchase new or used textbooks, electronic versions, rentals or purchase directly from other students. Through eCampus, Clark State students are able to ship books to their home or to one of Clark State’s campus locations. Books are shipped for a fixed cost of $5 regardless of the number of books ordered.

Clark State Calls for Public Comment Prior to Evaluation by Higher Learning Commission

Clark State Community College will host a team from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on December 3 and 4 of this year. Clark State has been accredited by the HLC since 1973. While visiting Clark State, the HLC team will review the institution’s continued ability to meet the HLC’s criteria for accreditation. Clark State is now seeking comments from the public about the College from all constituencies including students, parents of students, prospective students, employers, alumni, donors, elected officials, community members, community organizations and businesses. Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of Clark State or its academic programs and be submitted no later than October 31, 2018.

New Class of Clark State Police Academy Graduates Ready to Serve, Protect

Clark State Community College will hold a graduation ceremony for cadets of the Peace Officer Training Academy at 6:30 p.m., July 31, 2018, in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center. The graduating class represents the 50th anniversary of the academy and the third class of cadets to complete training in the new facility located in the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield. Paul Weber, commander of the Clark State Police Academy, said Clark State is sending well-trained cadets into the workforce, and he is confident they will make excellent police officers.

Clark State and University of Cincinnati Partner to Offer Four-Year IT Degree

Clark State Community College and the University of Cincinnati (UC) have entered into a second bachelor’s degree completion agreement. The agreement will put students on pace to earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Technologies CyberSecurity track from UC following their completion of an Associate of Applied Science in CyberSecurity/Information Assurance Technology from Clark State. The new agreement with UC is a 3+1 agreement, meaning students can complete their first three years of the program at Clark State tuition prices. Students benefit from the stability of working within the same environment and from the overall lower cost of the degree.

Clark State Now Offers Opportunity for Future in Robotics

Clark State Community College will introduce a new Robotics certificate program beginning Fall semester of this year. The Robotic certificate program is 24 semester hours, and graduates of the program will receive FANUC certification and Motoman certification. The Robotic certificate program prepares graduates for careers such as a robotics programmer or robotics application technologist. Yaskawa America, Inc., Motoman Robotics Division worked with Clark State to create the comprehensive Robotics certification program with a focus on web-based curriculum designed specifically for educators and students.

Clark State Celebrates 25 Years of the Performing Arts Center with Diverse Season, Red Carpet Gala

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a diverse schedule of events and performances to commemorate the establishment of the landmark venue in Springfield, Ohio. The Performing Arts Center (PAC) will kick-off the 2018-19 season on September 14 with an Evening of Jazz with Graham Breedlove, followed by the Circle of Friends Gala featuring the National Broadway Tour of Jersey Boys on September 29. The 2018-19 season will feature four National Broadway Tours and the return of The Illusionists. Tickets for the Clark State Performing Arts Center 2018-19 season events go on sale July 16 at ticketmaster.com.
